Mini Monkeys

3 Months to 2 Years Old

We have created two areas within the nurseries to help focus on the development of the children. There are baby rooms, which cater for babies from 3 months upwards and then there is our development room, which caters for children from 14 months to 24 Months (2 years).

These rooms are small age phased rooms where the routine is centred fully around the needs and interests of the children. When a little one starts at the nursery we aim to follow their home routine, ensuring continuity between home and nursery. The menu can be easily adapted by our on-site cooks for children at different stages of weaning and we have milk kitchens in both sites where bottles can be prepared.

When children move between rooms there is a settling period where they spend time within their new room with the older children prior to their move. This helps to ensure that the transition is smooth and enables the children to enjoy all that their new room offers.

Both the baby rooms and the development room are set up to help the children learn and have fun at the same time. All toys and equipment have been specially selected to help their development. Whilst the Ofsted ratio of staff to babies is 1:3 we uniquely keep our youngest children on a 1:2 ratio at Little Monkeys.

When you join Little Monkey’s your child will be allocated a key person. A key person has a special responsibility within Little Monkeys, working with a small number of children giving them the reassurance to feel safe and cared for. One of their roles is also to build a strong relationship with you as the parent/carer and to work towards a cohesive approach between home and nursery. This designated member of staff will be your main point of contact for any major changes to your little one’s life (routine etc).

The key person approach at Little Monkeys was designed to make sure that each of your child’s needs are being met and that their feelings, ideas and behaviour are responded to sensitively. The key person will keep records of your child’s development and progress. This will then be shared with you on a day to day basis and in greater detail, twice a year at parents evening.

The key person will evaluate on a weekly basis your child’s individual needs and in particular their next steps in terms of development. These next steps are the basis from which the team plan activities and experiences for your little one.
